Papercut Garden
July 19, 2009

I have spent all day cutting and crimping, folding and sticking ……… this is the result, a garden full of flowers in full bloom (well not quite yet). I want to capture the fullness, the ripeness, the overflowing abundance, that special moment when a flower becomes perfection in everyway, Have yet to complete the full range of flowers, but will continue making the shapes I have made and pleased with, then make them in a variety of sizes. My aim is to fully cover two boards 1m square and place in an acrylic shadow boxes. These are going to hang in an entrance hall of a project I am completing in August. Will post completed images soon

Shedding – paper cut / paper sculpture
February 3, 2009
This tree completes the set of four…………. fingers are aching!!! The work has been done for the year, its now time to prepare for the long period of slumber and regeneration, shedding the past, shedding that which no longer serves us……….
White on white has not been the easiest colour to photograph, need to do my homework here!!
abundance – paper cut / sculpture
February 3, 2009
abundance, I love that word it conjures up so much in my mind………… picture no 3, the tree is now in the fullness of its green summer coat and the fruits of the pollinated flowers are beginning to grow. Mother earth is working hard now and is in full flow……..

Awakening – paper cut / sculpture
February 3, 2009
this is no 2 in the series, when the day light lengthens and mother awakens from slumber, slowly new life begins its upward journey from the darkness, shoots burst through the soil and buds burst open upon the tree, like white frothy lace adorning the the branches,

Slumber – paper cut / sculpture
February 3, 2009
since my previous posting I have been hard at it with scalpel, my new scissors and reams of paper !………………….. this one is the first in series of 4 trees, all reflecting the cycles of life. This first one is the winter, when mother earth rests in deepest slumber. The day light hours are short while she takes stock and replenishes herself in readiness for the vigours of spring.

winter tree in progress
January 28, 2009
I am starting an all white series of four tree paper cuts, the first a winter skeleton still in progress. Think the next will have blossom, then a full show of leaves, then a showering of leaves as they shed.
All 50 x 50 and in black shadow box frame. I have also in mind of series of seeds, bean seeds, in stages of growth. Will post more as I complete
abundant growth
January 10, 2009
this is the time of year when we rest, store all our energy for the abundant growth that’s around the corner. Its a really good feeling to know in a few short weeks, mother nature will awaken, seeds will stir deep, deep down in the earth, and soon they will start their annual journey.
I so look forward to seeing the vibrant green shoots, little miracles that pop their heads up through the soil and be guided by the sun and the moon……… I see this as a metaphor for our lives, the cycle of death and rebirth, as we slow down for the dark evenings and winter slumber, we have time to look over the past year, see what serves us and what we need to release, need to let go of. We can then replenish our reserves in readiness for the increasing energy that we need to get us though the growing season, the spring and summer and watch as our abundance grows ……. and so it goes on, how magical.
With this in mind thought I would try a small, simple paper cut, its around 23cms sq in all. white cartridge paper on a red ground.
More Paper
January 4, 2009
tried a different style today, and used black and white and thinner paper. Easier to cut but not quite so “crisp”. However it seemed quite easy to “shape” it, found that if I rub the back of the paper with the end of the scalpel handle onto a piece of foam board that the paper curls and takes on a very 3 dimensional effect, more so than my first efforts. Learning more each time I cut them. What I would like to do is large free form hanging paper sculptures
growing seeds

After I finished my coffee, my toast and marmalade this morning, I felt inspired to cut some more paper!!! This time in white inpired by the vision of a tummy bursting with an abundance of new growth, love and creative energy.
