Oh dear I have lost my tail

Up early this morning, resting on my seat with a view. Spent the whole day working with my shoe images. Guess unconciously I am drawn to the feet, seeing as I cannot walk far with this cumbersome ” walking plaster” boot thing. It is very restricting, but then I guess its meant to be. I am off to hospital after breakfast to have another xray and see if it needs putting in plaster, hoping not. I managed to persuade them before christmas to give me the boot, they wanted to plaster, so watch this space.

Here is an image I like and this time there is no feet only mermaid tails, original drawing executed in oil pastels, paint and pencil. It was inspired by a dream about a mermaid and her tail fell off and could be seen floating down deep into the depths of the sea

Mmmm perhaps a lttle early to think about flowers………….. they are still magical memories held in seeds, bulbs, way down in that dark soil, over wintering and so full of possibillity. Its a good feeling knowing these wonderfully colourful plants are gathering their energy in readiness for that enormous push through the soil as the days lengthen and the sun becomes increasingly warmer. Puts me in mind of Persephone, she has plunged down into the underworld now, but come the spring and she will burst forth bringing that spark of creation, the green and beautiful land will once again blossom.

2011 a new path of creativity

Well its arrived, a new year and new decade, conjured up memories of the millenium new year, struggling to get to the embankment to watch the fireworks with a two champagne bottle backpack and a few friends. I had just moved into my new apartment after its year long refurb and felt so full of joy and optimism . It was a great evening.

This year I feel equally full of optimism for the coming year, saying goodbye to 2010, fully embracing 2011 is very exciting. So many things to do, to experience, to see to enjoy. I have written a list and it gets longer everyday. This time I am going to print it out and put a line through each item as they are achieved…………….. I am also leaving a huge space for new thing to arise, unexpected things, new challenges, new opportunities, this is the part that for me makes my life so rewarding.

I have been spending time these last few days purchasing new paints, ordering canvases, sketching, list making and creating new images of my existing artwork and photography.

Created a clay sculpture form, she is hanging trapeze like under my arching floorlamp. I adore the naked form, and she fills me with feelings of freedom. I took a photo, layered with image of the conntryside at the long man of wilmington and hey presto………………………..

Breathtaking scenery does it for me, it opens my heart and I feel uplifted. This past week I have been to two places in the UK that has some of the most of expansive views. The Malvern Hills in Worcestershire was the first stop, where the high street is lit by gas lamps would you believe. The area is synonymous with Elgar the composer and his famous Enigma Variations ( see clip below), he walked the hills often, and you can imagine the views here must have been a real inspiration to him. Also of course its famous for the water, its bottled and sold throughout the uk and beyond today, but the hills are alive with natural springs and wells, Holywell being the most important and possibly the oldest recorded in Malvern, dating back to the 12th century. No time to explore the waters on this visit, a return is imminent.

Next came Matlock, county town of the Peak District and its spectacular views. this too is famous for its water, and in Victorian society this was the place to come for a “cure”. Driving through this amazing scenery makes me wonder why in the uk people jet off to far-flung places of the world to be herded along with hordes of other brits when there is such beauty in our own landscapes. These areas truly “open my heart” but there is one breathtaking view I have always wanted to see for myself, and that is of our planet earth, suspended in the cosmos………….. One day. For now I have to make do with video clips, found one that travels through really heart expanding territory and set to NIMROD from Elgar’s Enigma Variations.
