Working under pressure, why do I need deadlines
August 1, 2009
The deadline is getting close, the pressure is on , i have flowers coming out of my ears. Why is it I do best under pressure? I have had months to get this project off the ground, all the ideas percolating around inside until I come up with something that just “feels right”. With the deadline looming I am forced to make a decison and when I do I feel a mixture or elation and peace. My body acts out what my heart is telling me, this is the one!!!!!! this is it, a real sense of calm and wellbeing resides, the anxiety of getting it right subsides and off I go, it all seem quite effortless once I start.
I adore roses, so its no surprise that my hands have cut, crimped and glued many today!! They look so fragile but at the same time so robust!!, there heady perfume and profuse flowering habits fill me with joy. My favourite perfume which I wear all he time is Rose Absolue. It is said the Cleopatra laid a thick carpet 2 feet thick of rose petals for a banquette given for Mark Anthony………..
I am also filling some perspex boxes with a swarm of butterflys, about 350 in all. Then three large trees, one tree per perspex box. Oh my get a move on CAROL……. no time to write blogs

He’s so cute, but he’s not the only one!
March 29, 2009
No he is not the only one, in fact I have two little hairy monsters !! This is Ferdy, he came into my life in 1996, along with Lily, his counter part. Having just given back two ferocious little ferrol kittens, pumpkin and ralph, back to the Celia Hammond Trust, these little terrors bit and hissed were off to a more suitable home on a farm, I found myself with an empty “cat place” to fill.
So there I was ringing around for two lost little souls, searching for two little kittens I came across a persian breeder who was prepared to sell me two of her kittens that didnt make the “grade” so to speak, so off I went with cat basket and son to choose these poor little second class citizens. Sitting relaxed on the sofa with a cuppa the breeder opened the door and the cute lttle bundles of fluff entered the room, Lilly immediatly ran around along the back of the sofa and stared at me, Ferdy was just like a chocolate box picture, his big eyes looked up and me and was the next, I could have gone on all day like this, but only had room for two!!
I think they are just beautiful, a little odd looking after having burmese cats in the past, but I grew to love their squashed little faces. Just recently I was having tea with a newly acquainted lady, her cat came in and it looked so deformed with its big nose!! I mentioned to her I had two cats and showed her a photo, she looked oddly, screwed up her nose and declared “oh how ugly” !

This is a sketch I have done, it forms part of a larger sketch of a mass of entwined bodies. The idea came to me as I was doodling around on a piece of paper whilst chatting on the phone. I saw this mass as a kind of huge conical shape rising from a wide based pedestal, sculpted from fine porcelain and glazed white. Just like a huge cake !! I hope to get around to doing that one day…………………. I love to paper cut but not sure this would transfer to that medium, perhaps I should try.
cloud shades

abundance – paper cut / sculpture
February 3, 2009
abundance, I love that word it conjures up so much in my mind………… picture no 3, the tree is now in the fullness of its green summer coat and the fruits of the pollinated flowers are beginning to grow. Mother earth is working hard now and is in full flow……..

Awakening – paper cut / sculpture
February 3, 2009
this is no 2 in the series, when the day light lengthens and mother awakens from slumber, slowly new life begins its upward journey from the darkness, shoots burst through the soil and buds burst open upon the tree, like white frothy lace adorning the the branches,

Slumber – paper cut / sculpture
February 3, 2009
since my previous posting I have been hard at it with scalpel, my new scissors and reams of paper !………………….. this one is the first in series of 4 trees, all reflecting the cycles of life. This first one is the winter, when mother earth rests in deepest slumber. The day light hours are short while she takes stock and replenishes herself in readiness for the vigours of spring.

winter tree in progress
January 28, 2009
I am starting an all white series of four tree paper cuts, the first a winter skeleton still in progress. Think the next will have blossom, then a full show of leaves, then a showering of leaves as they shed.
All 50 x 50 and in black shadow box frame. I have also in mind of series of seeds, bean seeds, in stages of growth. Will post more as I complete

Paper surge
November 23, 2008
So much swirls in my head, sparks fly off here and there, and feel the need to express them somehow. Saturday afternoon, after walking, coffee and seeing off Seanpaul on the train, I really felt the urge to try and express something that really resonates with me, but in a new form, paper cutting. I first came across this in China , when I visited many years ago, that’s another story for another day ( travels on Trans siberian railway, setting of from Moscow the day after Chenobyl disaster in April/May 1986 !) Anyway, papercutting has always intrigued me, so I thought I would try my own version, a cross between, paper scultpture, cutting and silhouettes. Very happy with my first attempt, although I can see there is much room for improvement!!

to try tissue paper next time. Crepe Paper is good but there is a real resistance from me to continue to use it.
