A stroll in the sunshine

Another of day of doing just what I please

A stroll in the sunshine among this splendid topiary.  The avenue of yews once graced the stately carriage drive to Cliphsham Hall, this was back in  the 1870’s when the then Head Gardener began clipping the yews into all maner of shapes.

Now its a grassy meadow-like walk, with the yews, all 150 of them, crimped and clipped by the forestry commission.

There dome like shapes put me in mind of something from Alice in Wonderland, like a line of chess pieces queueing up to take part in the mad hatters tea party, a bit like this……..?
