where did the sun go !

IMG_6434Wow, such a wonderful couple of days, to feel that warm sun on my skin……….  not long now and back to Greece  and hopefully a little more consistent sun !.  Its gloomy again and raining right now !

Poor old veg it doesn’t know what is happening, one good thing is the BEES, they keep on doing what they do best, pollinating the veg flowers !  Runner Bean that are climbing the high red brick wall are alive with the buzzing bees going about their business.  Bean are very abundant now, one of my fave veggies.  Tomatoes are abundant too but with the weather, not many ripen.  I grew a lot this year, 20 plants or more, but I am lucky if I get more than a handful a day, thought I would be having a real glut and could be bottling up their sunshine for the winter.  Courgettes much the same, no glut and I have so many recipes to cope with it this year too.

Breakfasted on my toms, sauteed in a little oil and smoked paprika with scrambled eggs.  Not my eggs , would love to have some hens, but not possible where I live sadly, perhaps one day when I am in Greece with my design and sculpture studio, garden and time just for myself !

My Sweetpeas I have picked a bunch fresh everyday since mid June, so delighted, so well worth the trouble growing from seed.

some bounty at last

It has been such a chilly summer so far, yes couple of peaks, but last couple of weeks my poor veggies have been tossed and turned in a chilly wind, cold days and even colder nights.  In fact the start of the growing season so a cold wind too and I thought I had lost many of my plants, however, they have all survived and beginning to offer some friutage ! Courgettes, Rainbow chard, Kale, sweetpeas, Tomatos, marigolds, nasturtiom, salad leaves, pea shoots.  Runnerbeans and aubergines are on their way as are chillies and french and Borlotti

Its been a busy time all around, lots  of reading, sewing , writing and working !! so, so busy at work……….

Picked fresh today

IMG_5173

IMG_5168Borlotti beans, luscious sweet figs, yellow and green courgettes, fresh mint, yellow tomatoes

A tub of  hedgerow picked blackberries, swapped for some courgettes.

Have loads of chillies coming along, and my sweetpeas are in bud at last !!

PS , just realised the figs have ripened  almost 4 weeks earlier than last year !!

Rich Pickings

IMG_5133 IMG_5134The tomatoes and courgettes and really growing strong now, ripening quickly !!  and taste so delicious.

This hot weather is sending my chilli plants wild too, there plants huge and bushy with many chillies, still green but again abundant.

New watering can coming today, much larger than my diddy one I have been using these past weeks

home grown!

IMG_5057IMG_5062Courgettes doing really well, have three plants, two yellow and one green.  Yellow varieties seem more abundant  with huge lush green leaves.

Tomatoes growing strong, although some flowers are not setting.  I have trailing tomatoes too, at first not much happened but now they have perked up and sending out long racemes of tiny toms !

Green Bean which grew really well last year, this year rubbish, slugs keep eating them.  Barlotti beans not eaten, but they seemed to have stopped growing ?  very strange

Chillies, they are doing fine, although again, not every flower seems to set?  any ideas why?

Watch this, inspiring

grown with love

Wow, look at these veg, fresh straight from my daughter’s garden.  Courgettes, a yellow gold round one not sure of the variety but it looks so bright, baby round carrots, three varieties of beetroot, some kind of kale and wonderful rainbow chard with bright red-pink stalks.  Just had to take a photo before I started cooking my dinner.

Rainbow veg with herb butter and egg noodles……..  quick and easy and oh so delicous

Cooked the baby beetroot, skinned and sliced in half

steamed the baby carrots and left whole

sliced up the chard and some kale across in strips

diced the courgettes

chopped up a couple of tomatoes

put the egg noodles in some just boiled water to warm through

sauteed the kale and chard stalks and put in bottom of dish

metled som butter and put in  chpped freshsage, thyme and rosemary, then added courgette and tossed slightly till softened

Then add carrots, beetroot and chopped tomatoes.

drain noodles and put on top of kale and chard

Top with rainbow veg, I add a squeeze of lemon, but suppose parmesan would be nice

delicous, fresh and nutrituous.

thank you Kirsty,  I know they were grown with love !!
