my creative life with paper

Colour, working with colour I find difficult in a paper context……….. to me white on white is magical, ethereal, ghost like. Its simple but has great strength, its architectural, its my choice for paper work, feels more structural, captures the essence and feels like a design and not just decoration.
However I thought I would try colour and try crepe paper…………… I enjoyed cutting and crimping, progressing from the photocopy paper prototype of last week. However, it feels frivolous, decorative, like icing a cake and not the same as working in white
What does this mean? its something very powerful, brings up many emotions, something I want to explore over the coming weeks.

My paper journey swept me off my feet today, literally………… shoes, delicate, fragile, made of paper. My first attempt, these are just first prototypes and excited about making more……………. as I make them I sit patiently, cutting and crimping, folding and shaping, watching my vision become reality. Its amazing, from a flat piece of white photocopy paper, some love and vision, and hey presto a fairy tale shoe fit for a princess.
Sunday, what a fabulous day, Kirsty and Yao came over and we cut paper together all around the table!! Enriching in everyway, the bonus being we made an ocean of flowers together. Each flower so unique, cut out, folded, crimped , moulded and shaped so lovingly, all by hand and with love. The persepex boxes are going to be full of so much more than flowers!
For lunch we ate a tasty roast chicken, roast butternut squash and parsnips and courgettes and french beans from Kirsty’s garden, and ended the day by watching an incredible film called MAN ON A WIRE, a guy that against all odds walked on a wire strung between the topmost points of the world trade centres twin towers back in the 70’s. Amazing footage.
All in all a really lovely day

I have spent all day cutting and crimping, folding and sticking ……… this is the result, a garden full of flowers in full bloom (well not quite yet). I want to capture the fullness, the ripeness, the overflowing abundance, that special moment when a flower becomes perfection in everyway, Have yet to complete the full range of flowers, but will continue making the shapes I have made and pleased with, then make them in a variety of sizes. My aim is to fully cover two boards 1m square and place in an acrylic shadow boxes. These are going to hang in an entrance hall of a project I am completing in August. Will post completed images soon
